The midsize SUV will feature the more intimidating aspect revealed in recent leaks, according to official images of the new-generation Honda CR-V.
After teasing the impending updated HR-V subcompact SUV, Honda has unveiled photos of an "all-new" 2023 CR-V small SUV, which an unusual decision is given that SUVs have dominated car lineups for a long now. The teaser photographs reveal a big portion of the CR-front V's and rear angles, which match up precisely with images leaked from Chinese government filings last week.
The CR-design V's has been altered this time around, and Honda promises more refinement, improved maneuverability, and a sportier driving experience owing to a revised hybrid arrangement.
A more premium, vivid appearance
The CR-V teaser pictures shows what is most likely a top-of-the-line model with a distinctive design and sharp LED daytime running lights. The L-shaped taillights have expanded to include tiny LED-lit L-shapes within the housing, and a pair of massive exhaust outlets are visible further down. The images show a completely new front appearance with a new bumper and updated intakes as well as slimmer headlights. The front end features a wider upright grille inspired by the Accord sedan, giving the vehicle a more luxury and formidable appearance.
Increased adaptability combined with a "sturdy" style could point to a more off-road-friendly CR-V, or a TrailSport variant with the aesthetics but not the capabilities. The top spoiler appears to be a little larger, but the back window remains modest. Versatility might also allude to interior storage and luggage space, and it could indicate a variant of the HR-V or Fit's Magic Seat, which we adore.
Hybrid Engine to grab spotlight
Honda Australia has yet to clarify which engine options will be offered in our new-generation CR-V, the upcoming SUV midsizer is almost certain to follow the HR-V small SUV and Civic hatch's lead and provide a hybrid option. In the United States, the current fifth-generation CR-V has a series-parallel hybrid option – similar to a Toyota RAV4 – although this drivetrain was not available in Australia.
After a previous-generation vehicle trailed behind the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid in a comparison test, the promise of livelier driving for the CR-V Hybrid is particularly welcome. It's unclear whether Honda will keep with the standard hybrid system or apply their 'e-HEV' system, which will basically turn the CR-V into a totally electric vehicle with a petrol engine acting as a range extender and charging the battery.
The e-HEV system, which consists of a dual-motor configuration with a combined output of 158kW/315Nm and a range-extending 2.0-litre 'Atkinson cycle' four-cylinder petrol engine, will most likely be used in this option.
The 2023 Honda CR-V will make its official premiere in a few weeks, ahead of the start of sales this fall. Both the smaller HR-V and the bigger Pilot will be overhauled for 2023.
