Suzuki has announced that its first pure-electric vehicle will be available by 2025, making it the latest automaker to commit to a zero-emission model line.
Toshiro Suzuki, President of Suzuki Motor Corporation, announced the news at the launch event for the all new S-Cross.
The most of the style is shared with the Toyota-badged car, and the two cars are mechanically comparable. fleet CO2 emissions low because most of its cars (particularly in Japan and India) had tiny displacement engines and light bodies.
Suzuki now adds full hybrid and plug-in hybrid technology to its line-up in the UK, with all of its cars featuring at least 48-volt mild hybrid technology, courtesy to its technical relationship with Toyota on the Swace estate and Across SUV.
Suzuki may be able to use this technical relationship with Toyota for its upcoming electric vehicle. It's unclear whether the two companies' technological relationship extends to full electric vehicles, although Suzuki could use electric motor and battery technology from Toyota's upcoming bZ4X SUV.
Suzuki could follow Subaru's lead, which just launched the Solterra, a rebadged version of the bZ4X. The majority of the styling is shared with the Toyota-badged vehicle, and the two cars are similar underneath.
Given Suzuki's recent collaboration with Toyota on two of its more recent vehicles - the Swace is essentially a rebadged version of the Toyota Corolla estate, and the Across is essentially a rebadged version of the Toyota RAV4 - there's a strong chance that the Japanese brand could leverage its agreement with Toyota even further as even relatively niche players Suzuki has been obliged to move to complete electrification in Europe, which is a costly technology to develop.
